They have found vestiges such as the petroglyphes of Palotoa-Shinkebenia and Urubamba rivers in the Pontiacolla Range, which attracted the attention of anthropologists. Under the kingdom of Inca Roca, Incas made contact with the people of the region. At the beginning of the conquest, the expedition of Juan Alvares Maldonado arrived there.
The vice-monarchy didn't give much of importance to this region, Dominican missionaries were installed there. Colonel Faustino Maldonado traversed the region that had a great success during the rubber boom near the end of the 19th century. Gold discovery in the Madre de Dios basin and the recent forest exploitation have revealed this region.
